The client ran SAP as their system of record across manufacturing operations, but the platform was entirely desktop-bound and accessible only from within the plant on corporate workstations. Executives could not review or approve requests while offsite. Plant managers had no visibility into production status or scheduling unless they were physically at a terminal. Floor supervisors managed work orders and goods movements by walking back to a desk. Approvals stalled, decisions were delayed, and the gap between where work happened and where data lived created constant operational friction. The business needed to unlock SAP's full value beyond the plant walls — without replacing or re-implementing the core system.
We designed and built a SAP BTP Extension API layer — the sanctioned, non-invasive path to expose SAP data and transactions to external clients without modifying core. This API layer handled authentication, role-based data scoping, and transaction routing between the mobile clients and SAP. On top of that we built a mobile application with distinct, role-aware experiences for three user tiers: executives receive high-level KPI dashboards and pending approval queues; plant managers access production orders, scheduling views, and operational metrics; floor supervisors handle work orders, goods movements, and quality workflows directly from the shop floor or in the field. All data flows live through BTP to SAP — no replication, no synchronization lag, no separate database to maintain.
